QUIET RIOT – Highway To Hell [2CD] (2016)

German label ZYX is releasing a double-CD of QUIET RIOT music packed under the title “Highway To Hell“. This is a remastered compilation including Quiet Riot lesser heard material that worthwhile the purchase at the price of single disc.

The double CD-set comprises Quiet Riot’s ‘comeback album’ from 1999 titled Alive And Well – which was not a live recording but a bunch of new songs plus re-recorded versions of their more popular ’80s tracks – plus the pretty unheard ‘Live And Rare Vol. 1’ featuring live recordings from the band at their finest moment.

After their massive world wide success, Quiet Riot recorded several shows between 1983-84 for a possible live album release. That never happened but in 2005 appeared ‘Live And Rare Vol. 1’, with some of these Eighties takes.
We have here on CD 1 hot recordings of ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’ or ‘Let’s Get Crazy’ taped in 1984, or as well melting performances of old QR songs such as ‘Danger Zone’ and ‘Gonna Have A Riot’, both from 1983 shows.
Additionally included are the original demo tapes (1981) of ‘Thunderbird’, ‘Love’s A Bitch’, and ‘Let’s Get Crazy’, a must for the fans.
The sound quality is fine and nicely mastered.

On CD 2 there’s Quiet Riot’s new 1999 songs, underrated material like ‘Angry’, ‘Against the Wall’ (sounds like a Randy Rhoads era QR track), or ‘The Ritual’, really good heavy rockers plenty of bite.
Quiet Riot completed the album with convincing re-works of their famous ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’, ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’, and ‘Metal Health (Bang Your Head)’ among others, plus a cover of AC/DC’s classic ‘Highway to Hell’.

“Highway To Hell” is a really good package to re-discover Quiet Riot underrated material and some true hot ‘n heavy live versions.
Songs are pure, uncorrupted hard rock kickers in the same style of their Metal Health album, something first time fans will love.
