TIGERTAILZ – Blast (2016)

TIGERTAILZ - Blast (2016) full
HERE

After more than 10 years rocking glamsters TIGERTAILZ are back with a full length album of new material entitled “Blast“. Appropriately named, it certainly is a blast, a blast of fun. A blast into the past but at the same time a blast in a new direction. All of these things happen in the span of this one album.

Tigertailz have finally found their singer that hits the stride between original vocalist Steevi Jaimz and Kim Hooker. The best of both worlds, if you will.
The vocal spot is now being handled by former bass player, Rob Wylde. He does a great job and adds an element that’s been missing recently. In a live setting, I can see where he can easily handle the vocals on the songs by both former singers, as well as the tracks from the most recent E.P. Knives, presented here on the blog some time ago.
Opener “Just For One Night” starts off with a girl speaking and traditional Japanese music playing before launching into this pop-metal pseudo love song. It’s quite melodic and has a nice sugary appeal to it.

Quick to follow up is “All the Girls in the World”, a track that’s exactly about what you’d think it is from the title. This one really reminds me of the early days of the Tigertailz. It’s a glam masterpiece that’s easy on the ears and has a catchy melody that you’ll be humming all day long.
“Pipped It Popped It” is the first official single off of “Blast” and shows the ’80s glam rock sensibility that made Tigertailz a household name. The song divided waters among fans when appeared some months ago accepted to represent Britain at this years Eurovision. Although it’s a nice slice of real ’70s / ’80s glam, it doesn’t do the overall album justice, so if you saw the video and did not like it, forget it, the rest of the songs are far better.

“Bop Bop You” takes us in a little heavier direction with the guitar riffs, but make no mistake it has the signature style that the band’s known for. “In the Arms of Mary” is an interesting track, with vocals being handled by none other than guitarist Jay Pepper, a real soulful sounding ballad.
“Bloodsuckers” hits you in the face like a heavy glam rock grenade. It’s probably my favorite track on the album, with the band yelling out the chorus “Bloodsuckers, bloodsuckers, 21st century bad mother fuckers”. It rocks.

“Dynamite” is a great cover song by the band MUD. It has a great classic rock feel to it, without losing the glam feel. The cut is poised to be released as the second single on the album.
“Bring It On” probably ties with “Bloodsuckers” for being the best rocker on the album. It’s got a great gritty feel and is also reminiscent of Tigertailz’s earlier sound.
“Crime Against Rock And Roll” is another outstanding rocker with tons of great swagger and down & dirty grooves. With “God’s Country” we get a great bouncy rock track with a great sing-a-long chorus, where the band explores new melodic territories.

TIGERTAILZ - Blast (2016) back

Tigertailz have delivered an album that comes in as one of the best of their career. The band has had pivotal albums with Young And Crazy, Berzerk and now you can add “Blast” to that list.
It’s the more melodic record in Tigertailz discography, and if you always avoided this band for being ‘too much’ sleaze or noisy, you better listen “Blast”. It’s what Poison should be doing 2016, but surely with more substance.
The band has been resurrected and comes out swinging with their first full album in ten years, and well worth the wait. If you’re looking for a good time glam melodic hard rock album, you’ll have a ‘Blast’ with the Tigertailz latest release.
