EISLEY GOLDY – Blood, Guts And Games [Japan Edition] (2017)

Singer David Glen Eisley and guitarist Craig Goldy, both formerly of GIUFFRIA, have joined forces in EISLEY / GOLDY, a partnership which sees the two artists bring back the signature sound that launched their careers in the early ’80s. Their debut CD “Blood, Guts And Games” will be released on December 1st, 2017 through Frontiers Music Srl, and tomorrow November 22, in Japan including the exclusive bonus track ‘To A Friend’.

The former GIUFFRIA men return with an album that is cut straight from the same cloth as their former outfit. Let me tell you this is arguably the finest thing that either of them have been involved with in over twenty years.
While Gregg Giuffria is not here with his pompous ivory, David Glen Eisley plays mant keyboards / synths all over the record, so that classic 1984 sound is here in spades.
Speaking about Eisley’s vocals, he is in top form as if 30 years had not passed at all.
And Craig Goldy still owns that special, melodious touch and guitar tone turning everything so smooth.

As for the songs, all are strong and highly enjoyable.
‘The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter’ is classic GIUFFRIA plenty of magic, ‘I Don’t Belong Here Anymore’ starts bluesier but at the chorus the ’80s arrive again over a punping bass line and fine guitar licks, then ‘Lies I Can Live With’ seems escaped from Silk & Steel: pure AOR bliss.
On a track like ‘No More Prayers in the Dark’ the duo tries more elaborated arrangements, while ‘Wings of a Hurricane’ is full of bite with dynamic rhythm section and a punchy chorus.

‘Life, If Only a Memory’ is the ballad, with that classy atmosphere the duo are known for, ‘Soul of Madness’ goes for more GIUFFRIA-like melodic hard, and ‘Believe in One Another’ is a slow (not exactly a ballad) tune, quite emotional and consistent.
The Japanese bonus track, ‘To a Friend’, is where EISLEY / GOLDY make use of acoustics in an intimate number with a cloudy, haunting melody.

While exploring some different spaces with a bluesy background and classic hard rock structures, the GIUFFRIA melodic hard rock spirit is here on “Blood, Guts And Games”.
Eisley has that unique, characteristic set of pipes with an unmistakable vocal tone, and Goldy deliver clever guitar arrangements, something he has honed all over the years.
A more than welcomed return from these talented cats. Let’s hope there’s more in the making.
