LILLIAN AXE – Out Of The Darkness Into The Light [Music On CD reissue 2018]

Originally released in 1991 and never reissued until now, specialized Dutch label Music On CD has been made available again LILLIAN AXE’s “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light”.
After turning up the heat with the release of their second album Love + War, it appeared as if Lillian Axe was poised to kick ass on the hair band front. “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light”, pulls together songs from the group’s self-titled debut and the aforementioned Love + War.

Indeed, “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light” was a record label move to capitalize the success of Lillian Axe second album, and put this compilation with songs from the band’s previous album.
However, it wasn’t an executives plan only, as lead vocalist Ron Taylor and guitarist Stevie Blaze were involved and personally selected the tracks for “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light”.

These include the raucous “Misery Loves Company”, “She Likes It On Top”, “Show A Little Love”, and the big arena ballad “Ghost Of Winter”, among other highlights.
Indeed, this “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light” works like a greatest hits CD.
So the question is; it was necessary a “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light” reissue? I mean, fans already got Lillian’s first two albums.
Well, I think this is a must have for completist fans of the band, and works greatly for the casual listener who wants the best songs into one single CD and not having to purchase the original two.

But there’s another reason; I recall reading in a magazine back in the day that some of the songs for this release were re-mixed.
I can’t confirm this; listening to this Music On CD reissue and comparing the songs with the original I can’t find a remarkable difference… perhaps in a couple of intros, and some cymbal fills.
Anyway, “Out Of The Darkness / Into The Light” comprises Lillian Axe’s best songs, some brilliant stuff from the glorious US hard rock era.
