Turilli / Lione RHAPSODY – Zero Gravity [Japan Edition] (2019)

Almost ten years ago the band Rhapsody Of Fire split. Guitarist and songwriter Luca Turilli went on to form Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody while vocalist Fabio Lione would carry on under the name Rhapsody Of Fire. It’s now 2019 and both prev members as well as former Rhapsody members Dominique Leurquin, Patrice Guers, and Alex Holzwarth have come together to form Turilli / Lione RHAPSODY and release their new album “Zero Gravity (Rebirth and Evolution)”. A collection of ten (+1 in this Japanese edition) incredible tracks that maintain the band’s theatrical and symphonic metal roots while bringing the genre to new plateaus.

With a very huge sound opens “Phoenix Rising”, symphonic theme with great choirs and a powerful Fabio that is tremendous throughout the record. “Zero Gravity” moves through the progressive blend of Turilli’s latest albums mixing heavy guitars with a pretty commercial feel, and in “Fast Radio Burst” they bring out their most experimental side embellished by some prominent keyboards.

Progressive yet accessible – all the album is easy listening – we find “Multidimensional” highlighted by great guitar work that leads us to the ballad “Amata Immortale”, whit asympho atmosphere all over.
One of the best songs on the CD is undoubtedly “I Am” (featuring Mark Basile of DGM as guest), an elaborated track rich in arrangements and interesting passages.

Rhapsody never was one of my favorite bands, but I have to admit this related project really hooked me. It’s clear that it was – and still is – a great chemistry between Turilli and Lione, one hell of a singer.
This new venture between these talented musicians is much more accessible and melodic than before, even catchy and foot tapping.
