DON DOKKEN – Solitary [Digipak version] (2019)

CleoRecs has released officially for the first time DON DOKKEN‘s solo album “Solitary“. Originally not for sale, homemade copied CDr’s were given by Don during some acoustic gigs in 2008. There was a Japanese release in 2016, this time silver / factory pressed but in very limited copies.
Now “Solitary” is being officially released in a digipak with the addition of 3 songs and refreshed artwork.

On “Solitary” Don Dokken performs original songs and cover versions in an acoustic format and new arrangements. Acoustic mean unplugged, but not just an acoustic guitar as example, but a full band featuring some stellar musicians such as Michael Thompson on guitar and bass, Tony Franklin on bass, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, John Keane on piano and synthesizer, Kelly Keeling providing some background vocals and more.

Don previously stated about “Solitary”: “The recording labels do not understand this CD. Even though Robert Plant has done a similar record, most labels are afraid to release a mellow peaceful record like this. I think they are afraid that my fans won’t understand the music on ‘Solitary’.
“I am very proud of this body of work. The songs come from my heart and it was a chance to show a different side of me.”

At times, Don sounds like Dokken (the band) into an acoustic set like in “In The Meadow”, at others like late ’80s Queenryche going acoustic, and on songs such as ‘Venice’, there’s some classic rock feeling ala Eagles.
‘Jealous’ it’s just Don and a piano, very stripped, for sure recorded at one take and pretty spine tingling.

A beautiful collection of songs performed from the heart.
