As requested, here we have the Canadian CD remastered reissue of HAYWIRE second album “Don’t Just Stand There“, including 2 bonus tracks. While the band easily was one the best Melodic (Hard) Rock bands produced by Canada during the ’80s, if you ask a fan of the genre, HAYWIRE rarely pop up as one of them or the first coming to mind. You get as an answer Loverboy, Honeymoon Suite, Triumph, etc. but this 5-piece from Charlottetown were second to none, and even better than many of their contemporaries.
After the successful debut LP, and again produced by expert Brian Allen, “Don’t Just Stand There” was released 1987. The band desired to make a harder album than their AOR pop/rock debut, in the vein of Bon Jovi’s hit Slippery When Wet. And indeed there’s more muscle still very commercial and radiable.
Songs like “One Heart Affair” and “Hard Reaction” are dancefloor rockers in the same vein as Bon Jovi or Harem Scarem, “Fire” packs a catchy beat akin Honeymoon Suite, while ”Separate Dreams” is a tightly crafted and rhythmically involving piece of Top-40 rock. We find a power ballad of course, “Thinkin’ About the Years”, but a mature, well crafted slow number it is.

”Don’t Just Stand There” helped Haywire gain cross-country awareness, as their debut album, ‘Bad Boys’, sold best on Canada’s East coast, the band’s stomping grounds. The album generated no less than five singles, all charting very well and getting airplay, and the LP eventually went gold.
The good thing about this album is that every song has a hit potential: big catchy hooks with layered keyboards, rockin’ guitars with tasty solos, and a vocalist with range and avoiding cliches.

If you love late 80s smooth melodic rock, and especially of the Canadian brand, HAYWIRE’s ”Don’t Just Stand There” is a must.
