L.A. BLUES AUTHORITY Vol. III – Hats Off To Stevie Ray (1993) *HQ*

As requested, here’s another terrific album from the L.A. BLUES AUTHORITY project: “Vol. III – Hats Off To Stevie Ray“.
This Volume III “Hats Off To Stevie Ray” is a tribute to one of the all time electric blues guitar greats, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Legendary performers Leslie West, Pat Travers, Rick Derringer, Frank Marino, Ricky Medlocke, Steve Hunter, Jon Butcher plus Craig Erickson, Kevin Russell and Tony Spinner perform smoking renditions of songs written / popularized by the late Texas blues guitarist.
This is easily the best tribute album to Stevie Ray, where the performances are bold, respectful, and high-octane rather than exact note-for-note carbon copies.
All the star lead guitarists also perform the lead vocals: Pat Travers is amazing on Cold Shot, Tony Spinner (known for his collaborations with Toto and Paul Gilbert) adds a wonderful funky touch to Empty Arms, while the unique Frank Marino provide an emotional take on The Things (That) I Used to Do.
And we have here the one and only Rick Derringer on perhaps the best song SRV ever wrote: Pride and Joy. Speaking of legends, Leslie West amazes on Look At Little Sister. The underrated Jon Butcher rocks on Crossfire, while Blackfoot’s Ricky Medlocke performs a slow, ultra-bluesy version of Texas Flood. And having drums monster Aynsley Dunbar on almost all songs is a plus!
Considered a standout entry in the L.A. BLUES AUTHORITY series, this volume is a must for fans of electric blues and melodic guitar workouts…

Legacy: A Tribute to LESLIE WEST (feat. Joe Lynn Turner, Dee Snider, Slash, Zakk Wylde) (2022)

Classic rock / hard rock super-stars Dee Snider, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Randy and Tal Bachman, Martin Barre, Joe Lynn Turner, Charlie Starr, Elliot Easton, Robby Krieger, George Lynch, Marty Friedman, Steve Morse, Eddie Ojeda, Yngwie Malmsteen, Slash, Marc Labelle, Mike Portnoy, Bobby Rondinelli and more, all contribute performances celebrating Leslie West in this “Legacy; A Tribute to Leslie West“.
When Leslie West passed away in December of 2020, he left behind a towering legacy of epic recordings that few rock guitarists can match. But there was more to West than great songs (although, to be sure, he created a ton of them); there was his brilliant, idiosyncratic sound, a gargantuan earth-mover that razed arenas and stadiums across the globe. More than just paralyzing tone, though, he also had a touch nobody could beat. It helped to make West one of the most significant, influential and irreplaceable guitarists of the rock era.
An astonishing array of West’s admirers – who also happened to be friends and peers – came together to celebrate the trailblazing musician…

LESLIE WEST – Soundcheck (2015)

LESLIE WEST is an imposing figure on many levels. His legacy and talent cast a large shadow of influence on rock and roll. This month, the iconic guitarist and vocalist returns with his 16th studio effort, “Soundcheck“, and as usual, West brings in new material as well as some well-chosen cover songs all blended with fantastic guest appearances, and inspired...

LESLIE WEST – Still Climbing (2013)

* In many ways, LESLIE WEST’s new album “Still Climbing” is another hard-rocking link in a very long musical chain. West is best remembered, of course, for being the guitarist and vocal belter in Mountain that started in the late sixties, and in the decades to come, some would recognize that Mountain was an obvious precursor to what would become...
