The iconic and influential bluesy hard rock / southern-tingled American band THE BLACK CROWES are reunited again, planning a world tour and releasing a new album: “Wiser For The Time”.
The record is available exclusively on vinyl and as a digital download, but the latter with 2 tracks less. The mammoth eight sides on four vinyl albums contains 26 songs (15 acoustic and 11 electric) from the band’s five-night, sold-out New York City performances in the fall of 2010.
“Wiser For The Time” is a very special recording.
I don’t take this one as ‘another live’ because the Crowes not only were obviously ON at this point of the tour, they also present here some of their songs never officially released as “Exit” or the dramatic “Title Song”. They also do a great version of Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You”.
The acoustic set sounds organic, all featuring North Mississippi All-Stars frontman Luther Dickinson (who recorded and toured with the Crowes from 2007-2010) on lead guitar, while the electric part is really up-front with Rich Robinson’s solos really noticeable in the mix.
I strongly recommend this ‘vinyl version’ as it features exclusively 2 tracks; a long and vibrant take on “Only Halfway to Everywhere” and “My Morning Song / Stare It Cold” blended into one.
You get a Lift Off Box containing four 180g Black & White Marble coloured vinyls which looks pretty darn cool and sounds & play smoothly.
The Black Crowes are an awesome, great rock ‘n roll band that has stayed true to themselves & their fans for over 25 years. “Wiser For The Time” it is a clear proof of that.
