JUDAS PRIEST – Redeemer Of Souls [Deluxe Edition bonus disc] (2014)
*
Having already received great reviews and fans approval, the just released new JUDAS PRIEST album “Redeemer Of Souls” is presented as well in its Deluxe Edition, featuring a 5-track bonus disc.
Glen Tipton said these songs were deliberately isolated from the rest of the album due to tone, so they really deserve to be treated as optional extras rather than fleshing out the intent of the original LP.
The five bonus tracks are all completely worthy and most could have been swapped out with a similar tune that made the proper LP, but with the exception of “Never Forget” – a solid throwback ballad – they all have the same vibrant, uptempo vibe that sounds like Judas ’79 / ’84 down to the minute, so it’s easy to see why the band wanted to isolate them from the primary track list.
As said, all are good cuts, but my favorite is the pumping “Snakebite”, a thrilling metal-flavored rocker in the best Screaming for Vengeance era style.
The Priest is back with the best album the band has released in over 30 years. Without question, “Redeemer of Souls” will (or should) also go down on many lists as one of 2014’s top metal albums.
