LUCID DREAMS – Build And Destroy (2015)
Hailing from Norway, LUCID DREAMS formed in around 2011 and released a well received self-titled debut, now the sextet are presenting their second effort “Build And Destroy“.
Lucid Dreams mix classic hard rock grooves with traditional Euro hard ‘n’ heavy / melodic metal inspired in the ’80s / early ’90s.
“Build And Destroy” sound like a mash-up of Pretty Maids, TNT and many bands from the new Scandinavian hard rock scene.
Opener ‘Wings Of The Night‘ show Lucid Dreams classic influences with a traditional European melodic metal sound driven by a twin guitar attack and strong vocals. Next ‘Hellbound‘ adds that classic mid-Eighties riff-like keyboards providing a nice touch. I love when hard ‘n’ heavy bands add this type of clever keys providing great textures.
More hard rock groove is heard in ‘Fear No Evil‘, then ‘Absence Of Innocence‘ starts with mysterious keyboards but later turns metallic and edgy.
‘Build And Destroy‘ rocks again with some groove and a catchy chorus, then ‘High Heeled Devil‘ somehow pays homage to classic British metal in the vein of Saxon.
‘Shanghai Cyanide‘ is one of my favs, perhaps the more hard rock oriented number here, while ‘Eye Of The Storm‘ return to a heavier affair via punchy riffs, a nice keyboard arrangement and high vocals, before ‘Daisy Dukes‘ deliver pure hard rock with a catchy refrain.
‘For Your Love‘ represents what Lucid Dreams is all about; melodic hard rock choruses mixed with hard ‘n’ heavy instrumentation akin 220 Volt.
“Build And Destroy” is a really enjoyable album plenty of ’80s vibes and good songs.
Lucid Dreams are a quite interesting bunch of musicians with the traditional Scandinavian quality, tight and precise.
Well produced / mixed with a ‘classic’ sound, “Build And Destroy” is recommended for all hard / metal related audiences.
