CLOUDSCAPE – Voice Of Reason (2016)
On January 8, 2016 the fifth studio album by Swedes CLOUDSCAPE entitled “Voice Of Reason” will be released worldwide, another step forward for the band but also flirting with their early albums musically.
The songs here are a great blend between straight forward, hard-hitting melodious metal songs to more progressive and majestic tracks. “Voice Of Reason” was produced and expertly mixed by Anders ‘Theo’ Theander at RoastingHouse Studios.
Cloudscape previous album was without a doubt a killer one, technically impressive but at the same time very emotional. “Voice Of Reason” delivers the same quality but heavier than before.
Mostly I found this in the strength of the riffage, both brisk and enveloping the songs. The rhythm section echoes this strength, becoming the engine that puts the acceleration forward. Singer Mike Andersson has the ideal voice for music like this, he controls the clean singing as well as the slightly rawer style with an edge.
You definitely hear these things within ‘Futuristic Psycho’ and ‘Thunders Of Extreme’.
However, what makes their power better is the latent, nearly subtle, rock groove that makes songs sound like heavy metal rock and quite catchy.
This found in ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ and ‘All For Metal’, a track that could have been written by Gamma Ray or Primal Fear and is an ode to metal music.
“Voice Of Reason” is also the first album in the Cloudscape discography to feature a title track. The song in question is very dynamic, progressive, majestic and musically it shows exactly what Cloudscape is all about all wrapped into one single composition.
Cloudscape’s “Voice Of Reason” keeps the band steady and on point to create interesting and entertaining metal / prog. Everything sounds pristine, crystal clear, something much needed in such elaborated music.
