SUNSTORM – Edge Of Tomorrow [Japan Edition +1] (2016)

SUNSTORM‘s fourth album titled “Edge Of Tomorrow” will be out on Frontiers Music next May 13, but there’s already the advanced Japanese release with an exclusive bonus track bonus track. Sunstorm is Joe Lynn Turner’s successful AOR / Melodic Rock project, something that came about for the first time in 2006 when Frontiers Music wanted to dig up some unreleased gems that Turner wrote during the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Joe Lynn Turner is sounding better than ever as he blends the AOR style Sunstorm is known for with a little more hard rock edge, influenced by his 2014’s Rated X project.
Sunstorm 2016 sounds really tight as unit, including really good guitarist Simone Mularoni who has been part of the Italian progressive/power metal band DGM since 2006 and producing Treat, drummer Francesco Jovino (U.D.O., Primal Fear), bassist Nik Mazzucconi (Edge of Forever) and Alessandro Del Vecchio, who does not need CV.

“Don’t Walk Away From A Goodbye” is the first big moment out of the new opus. Melodic, uptempo with a crunchy guitar work and rocking attitude. Really nice stuff.
“Nothing Left To Say” starts with a huge and heavy guitar riff and becomes a monster of a track. This is a brilliant and edgier melodic hard rock song and a personal favorite.
Next, with “Heart Of The Storm” we are dealing with a fast-paced rocker that takes no prisoners; ass-kickin’ hard rock stuff in an old-fashioned way with a killer chorus line and Turner’s amazing vocals on front row.

Yeah, Sunstorm 2016 rocks harder than before, but we have more relaxed moments like on “The Darkness Of This Dawn”, simply a breathtaking and epic power ballad, and the emotional “Angel Eyes” with a soulful Turner performance.
In “You Hold Me Down” we have a perfect Rainbow-esque rocker with all that ’80s magic and I am glad Turner is recording this type of songs again.
More classic melodic hard rock returns with the extremely catchy tune of “Everything We Got”, then “Tangled In Blue” adds that wonderful AOR feel we all love.

“Edge Of Tomorrow” is another great SUNSTORM record. A bit more edgy and powerful than the previous recordings but with all the well-known ingredients in, blending classic hard rock sounds with modern rockin’ AOR.
A must have for every serious Melodic Hard Rock fan out there!!!
