Founded six years ago by guitarist Andy Dawson (from UK cult hard rockers Savage), BLAKSHINE are releasing their second album simply titled “II“. The band hailing from Mansfield, Nottingham, England, features experienced musicians including Tony Butterworth (bass player from Adhesive) and strong vocalist Rick Gilliat (ex Traitor’s Gate).

Blakshine’s music is influenced by classic British hard rock all built around a punchy modern sound. It’s all about groove mostly driven by Andy Dawson’s riffs over the rhythm section of drummer Dave Lindley and Tony B creating a massive attack that kicks the band along.
Wasting no time the band opens with one of the best racks on the album, ‘World Get Ready’, which drops you right into an accomplished hard rock feeling and sets you right in the mood. With great lyrics matched to hard bitten vocals and stylish playing, Blakshine take you through this album like true professionals.

Blasting your ears with tracks like the groove-monster ‘King Of The World’ or the kick ass ‘Getaway Car’ it would be easy to believe that this band have been around for years and their debut was in the distant past.
They try something different with the modern ‘Nations’, but soon ‘Heroes’ returns to a pumping bass line and classic riffs, with references to the increasing number of dying rock stars in the last year.
One of the most interesting cuts is the driving ‘Antipolitical’, not only with a moving rhythm but also solid lyrics. You know, Blakshine try to avoid some of the usual clichés dealing with issues such as politics, migration and domestic violence, as well as some uplifting anthems such as ‘Unbroken’.

Solid songs, strong musicianship and fine production makes “II” a quite enjoyable listen. All four Blakshine members are seasoned cats and you can tell that listening the entire album.
Punchy rockers with a clean sound from a promising band which leaves the feeling that these dudes are destined for bigger and better venues the more people hear this album.
