Hard rock collective THE DEAD DAISIES will release tomorrow a new EP this Friday entitled ‘The Lockdown Sessions’. With their new studio album ‘Holy Ground’ delayed to January 2021 due Covid-19, to sate fans’ appetite the band recorded this EP mostly acoustically and studio live.
This is the first taste of legend Glenn Hughes as part of the band, which features as well Doug Aldrich and Deen Castronovo.
But there’s more; The Dead Daisies also released the first single from the new album, “Unspoken, plus 2 extra crazy remixes.

The current incarnation of the band – Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass), Doug Aldrich (guitar), David Lowy (guitar), Deen Castronovo (drums, vocals) – were primed to unleash their fifth studio album ‘Holy Ground’ and embark on a world tour this year, however the corona virus pandemic soon halted their plans.

The group, already superb, have added to their number the incredible bassist and singer, Glenn Hughes, known for his work with Trapeze, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple. With one of the most distinctive vocal styles in popular music, combining power with a legendary range, he is going to take The Dead Daisies even higher than they’ve gone before.

‘The Lockdown Sessions’ features stripped back versions of Dead Daisies new track / single ‘Unspoken’ and the recent ‘Righteous Days’, together with a cover of Humble Pie’s 1972 anthem ‘30 Days In The Hole’.
The EP is completed with a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Fortunate Son’ featuring drummer Deen Castronovo on lead vocals.
All terrific in performances and very well recorded.

Then we have the just released advance single from the upcoming new album: ‘Unspoken’ sees Hughes show us what he’s made of: and we’re not disappointed. This is the first taste of the album, which brings back the unforgettable ’70’s decade that reverberates throughout our lives to this day.
On top of his formidable vocal prowess, he’s no slouch on the bass, and alongside the guitars of Doug Aldrich on lead, and David Lowy’s rhythm, not to mention Deen Castronovo pulling it all together with his stupendous drumming talent, Hughes works hard to ensure that ‘Unspoken’ is the hands down best rock song you’re going to hear all year.

And we have more; The Dead Daisies are not afraid to experiment with their music; they gave the new song ‘Unspoken’ to American electronic / synthwave duo Dance With The Dead to put their spin and powerful arrangement to the song.
The results are weird and great a the same time: I never expected to hear Glenn Hughes in a synthwawe environment, plenty of retro analog synthesizer sounds.
However, Dance With The Dead (Justin Pointer and Tony Kim) declare themselves fans of ’70s metal and Deep Purple / Hughes era.
And you know? I like it.
