Armed with three explosive releases since their 2016 debut, French rockers OVERDRIVERS have been making a name of themselves in the European scene. Now they have a new CD, “Glory Or Nothing“, and the title put things clear from the start: conquer the world with their fun, rocking songs.
“Glory Or Nothing” is a rock n’ roll bombshell, reigniting their worldwide crusade and solidifying their place as a force in hard rock. These guys sound like a funnier version of Airbourne blended with classic American heavy rock, tongue in cheek, and with a huge sense of humor.
The uncomplicated, party-ready songs don’t take long to get going. The opener, “Kings Of The Road” really puts the pedal to the metal and gets the engine warmed up. But with title track “Overdrivers” they slow down a bit to rock out a hearty mid-tempo stomper. The well-played guitar solos always add a little fiery pep to the sound.

At a quick glance at the track listing, it would be fair to assume that we’re about to enter classic 80s rock territory that will be fun, energetic and at times a little cheesy. A presumption that’s mostly correct, yet OVERDRIVERS manage to exceed these expectations on a few occasions.
For the most part, this is a rock n’ roll heavy album that would be the perfect soundtrack for a road trip, party, or just something to rock out to on your own when you need that pick me up. It’s a reminder that rock music can be fun in the same way that it can be serious.
There is a selection of songs that you’ll listen to for the first time and by the final chorus you’ll find yourself singing along, and even earlier on, you’ll tapping your foot and bopping your head along. Maybe even headbang a little.

Perfect examples of this are ‘Perfection Is My Name’ a bouncy track with an unforgettable chorus to match, you can’t help but dance along. The sillier, yet feel-good tracks ‘My Girlfriend Is A Pornstar’ and ‘Bad Breath Girl’ that, on the one hand, are a little corny, yet you can’t but smile with their little messages regarding self confidence and not letting others bring you down.

The title track itself would very much suit an ’80s action film, playing over the montage of our hero preparing for the final showdown. With vocals that bring to mind comparisons to 1989 Alice Cooper or Axl Rose, this is just pure fun and you won’t be able to stop yourself from shouting the anthemic chorus of, “better, faster, stronger!”. Sure, there are moments that will make you want to roll your eyes, but you’ll immediately follow that up with a smile as you mouth along to the chorus and play air guitar. Just pure, feelgood rock n’ roll to make you happy.
