SHORTINO – Booked, Toured, … Released! (1999)

Paul SHORTINO is some kind of legend from the U.S. melodic hard rock history: he has been there since its inception, part of countless bands and having major label LP’s with Rough Cutt, Quite Riot, later King Kobra.
However, the ’90s, as happened to many 70/80s rockers, were hard times for Paul. He got the band Badd Boyz self-titled album released, but only in Japan. Paul then formed his own band SHORTINO, but struggled to find a proper management, and yet more difficult, a record deal.
A German label came to the rescue, and the album ‘It’s About Time’ was released in 1997, one of Paul Shortino’s best works. Presenting the CD in Europe, a gig was recorded and the result is this “Booked, Toured, … Released!“, only released in Germany and quite rare now.

Of course there’s songs from the new album, bur also Rough Cutt, Quite Riot, and Badd Boyz songs. This is a great recording, clean, crisp, not ‘stadium size’ but more ‘small venue’, and Paul sounds fantastic. We love the man alive, his bluesy voice isn’t restrained, it’s free and gorgeous.
And the band SHORTINO assembled is tight and oiled – the same line up that recorded the studio album – with twin guitar tandem serving a classic bluesy hard rock sound akin Whitesnake, Great White or ’80s Deep Purple.
This is pure rock n’ roll as it should be done and performed.
