TAILGUN – Spreading The Truth (2018)
TAILGUN has been making some noise in the Las Vegas / California circuit, and now are ready to release tomorrow their second effort titled “Spreading The Truth“. Certainly a breath of fresh air in the current US scene, TailGun plays classic, true hard rock n’ roll.
I can see why they have been chosen as support act for Great White, UFO, The Sweet, Y & T, Steel Panther, Lynch Mob, Autograph, Steelheart, and many more in their 3 years of existence.
Indeed, this is collection of straight to the heart rocking tunes, catchy, energetic, and very, very well produced & recorded.
Combining the talents of Cory Kay, Mike Mitlyng, Rob EG, Dru Jaxin, and Larry Kelly, this group gives listeners the talents of several of Vegas’ best players united. It is not surprising that the band continues to play gigs all around Sin City, both headlining and opening for many of the acts touring and passing through the valley.
There’s a tongue-in-cheek opener with ‘Taste That’, a boggie hard rocker mixing Jackyl-like riffage, classy vocals and gang choruses. Musically these guys are really tight, and the song comes fun and entertaining.
‘The Tip’ owes some to AC-DC, but TailGun sound is definitely American, as heard on the party-ready ‘Shakin’ That Ass’ even with some 80s hair metal on it.
‘Grab 12’ add acoustics to the mix (alongside the electric guitars) for a bluesy midtempo with a bit of Great White in its resolution, while ‘Honeyballs’ brings to mind Motley Crue circa 1986.
‘Push’ is perhaps the more melodic / hard oriented song on the album akin Tesla, however the chorus is made on a gang-vocals style, some kind of Hell’s Angels motorcycle song. Fun.
We have an anthemic track in ‘3 Beers In’ claiming to be played live, then ‘The Devil Said’ is more groovy and organic. As extras, we have two Radio Edit versions, shorter than the originals.
TailGun’s “Spreading The Truth” is just great rock n’ roll with an old-school, no-frills hard rock vibe. Obviously there’s chemistry between these guys, energy, and a lot of fun.
It’s great to hear that still there’s American bands playing this timeless rock n’ roll music, and as said, production is excellent for an indie.
Highly Recommended stuff.
