LOUDNESS – 8186 Now and Then [Japan only 4-CD Box] (2017) Full

Pioneer Japanese metal band LOUDNESS just released “8186 Now and Then“, a 4-CD pack only available in Japan including their legendary double live album ‘8186 Live’ (originally appeared in the ’80s) fully remastered, plus the recent concert the band did at Zepp Tokyo, April 13, 2017.
These were the only series of shows LOUDNESS performed this year, playing the entire ‘8186 Live’ set list celebrating its near 30th anniversary.

‘8186 Live’ is one of the best ‘live metal’ albums released in the ’80s recorded in 1986 at Yoyogi Olympic Pool Stadium, Tokyo, Japan, in between their most celebrated studio albums; Lightning Strikes (1986) / Hurricane Eyes (1987), with the band at their peak of creativity and accessibility.
It was named ‘8186’ because covers the best material composed by LOUDNESS between 1981-1986.

Now the double album has been digitally remastered with a superb sound, and while live albums are hard to improve in terms of sound quality, here it does.
Tracks like ‘Shadows of War (Ashes in the Sky)’, ‘Crazy Doctor’ or ‘Streetlife Dreams’ now sound like if LOUDNESS are playing in your living room with 1 millon watts of power behind them.

Additionally, we have the band performing the same setlist but in 2017, titled ‘8117 Live’.
It’s not exactly the same though, because the short closer ‘Farewell’ was replaced by the vibrant ‘Who Knows (Time to Take a Stand)’.
Additionally, drummer Munetaka Higuchi who recorded the original album is no longer in the band, and current sticks-man Masayuki Suzuki plays with his own style, with slightly different arrangements as well.

“8186 Now and Then” is a terrific release, and if you never heard the original recording – quite hard to find outside Japan – you need to check this monster remastering.
And it’s very cool as well to listen to LOUDNESS performing these songs 2017, showcasing that the band has lost none of their original power and skills.

NOTE: “8186 Now and Then” has been released world-wide as digital download only (you can find it at iTunes et all), but 2 songs are missing due to licensing restrictions outside Japan.
This is the full Japanese 4-CD pack, complete.
