JACE PAWLAK – Perspective (2015)
After the new JACE PAWLAK album featured here today one of you asked for his previous album “Perspective” released last year, which as being released independently, slipped under our radar. But 0dayrox bring it to you in exclusive.
As happens with his new solo album, Jace Pawlak’s “Perspective” is plenty of what he is best known for: ’80s inspired Melodic Rock / AOR.
But in this album appeared last year Jace mix upbeat guitar / keyboard filled tunes with some intimate material including a couple acoustic songs, a piano ballad, and a little bit of style change here and there to round it out.
This album is a collection of songs Jace has written as far back as 2006 and as recently as 2014. It touches on everything fans of classy ’80 music will expect.
The album kicks off with the ultra-catchy melodic rock of ‘Cry’; many an AOR band would die for a killer opening song like this on their album. The hook is awesome, complete with superb harmonies and a ‘big’ studio production that brings this recording to the uppermost musical hilt.
With such an extremely infectious tune in ‘Cry’ opening the album it might be hard to follow such a strong song.
But the catchy sentiment carries forth throughout the opus, with some perfectly structured commercial compositions like the piano balladry of ‘What If We Were Wrong’ which brings to mind one of Jace’s heroes, Richard Marx, who would have been proud to write & record.
There’s some rocking funky grooves on ‘Don’t Talk To Me’ which is followed directly with another beautifully crafted ballad titled ‘The Unknown’.
‘Don’t Talk To Me’, co-written with Chris “Luppy” Swan is an ode to one of our mutual favourite bands, Toto. And it’s pure ’80s stuff.
All tracks on this album are great, but my personal favourite is the AOR gem ‘Renegade Heart’ co-written with John Kivel, and brings to mind Canadian singer-songwriter Stan Meissner with its clystal clear sound.
Those whom are familiar with Far Cry’s ‘High Gear’ album will recognise the brilliant ‘The Same Mistake’ (written by Pawlak) that appears on this album as a stripped down acoustic version.
The album concludes with the beautiful ballad ‘Little Star’.
Seems Jace Pawlak wanted to highlight his songwriting talents on “Perspective” including varied material, and let me tell you he certainly has achieved the goal in spades. Seriously, the songwriting on this album is terrific.
Add to that a solid musicianship and pristine production and you have a winner here: catchy and uber-melodic ’80s inspired AOR / Melodic Rock.
Highly Recommended
