TIM KARR – Lost In The Ether (2019)
Do you remember TIM KARR? The songwriter / vocalist released a quite cool melodic rock album back in 1989/90 with the likes of Tim Pierce and Tracii Guns playing on it. Karr released another album in the Nineties then disappeared from recording. The aptly titled new CD “Lost In The Ether” marks his return into the studio, and into the scene.
While the Bon Jovi-esque style & sound of Karr’s first album is mostly gone for “Lost In The Ether”, what it isn’t lost is the classic back-to-basics rock n’ roll music, songs to stand the test of time.
There’s swirling guitars (and wha-wha) on opener ‘Salvation Or Bust!’, a bluesy shuffle on ‘Destruction’, while midtempo ‘Stand My Ground’ brings to mind Mark Spiro recent solo material, also due to Karr’s phrasing.
‘Rattletrap’ is pure rock n’ roll with a little Seventies touch, ‘Slow Change’ indeed slow things for something similar to Mike Tramp, then ‘Good For You’ is a nice ‘campfire’ acoustic ballad.
‘Leave Me Blind’ has a nice groove in the vein of Quireboys, whilst ‘Telegenocide’ has some interesting lyrics.
The sweet melodic rock days seems to be gone in Tim Karr’s current style & sound in favor to a more straight, to the bone rock n’ roll.
“Lost In The Ether” is a fine record with some strong song to boot, all entertaining stuff.
