TEN – Here Be Monsters (2022)

UK hard rock stalwarts TEN used the downtime during the worldwide pandemic to work on not one, but two new albums. The first album to be released, “Here Be Monsters“, will land on February 18, 2022 via Frontiers Music.
Following the success of the recent string of albums, from “Albion” to “Illuminati”, Gary Hughes is joined once again by guitarists Dann Rosingana, Steve Grocott and John Halliwell along with bass player Steve McKenna, and keyboard maestro Darrel Treece-Birch. Drums on the album have been handled by Markus Kullman (Sinner, Glenn Hughes, Voodoo Circle).
On thos new album mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward, TEN continue to raise the musical bar higher for themselves, a goal they push on every release. Stunning guitar work, rich keyboards, excellent bass and drum interplay along with Hughes’ rich vocals are the order of the day here…

TEN – Far Beyond The World +2 [Japan SHM-CD ‘TEN Essential Remaster Series’ including exclusive song] (2016) *0dayrox Exclusive*

Fronted by the unique Gary Hughes, Britain ’90s leading melodic hard rock / AOR band TEN celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015. As the first press of their albums was difficult to obtain due to the long-term discontinuation, Japanese label Avalon / Victor Entertainment created this ‘TEN Essential Remaster Series‘, a SHM-CD carboard sleeve reissue of TEN’s best albums.
And to make the band’s 20th anniversary reissues more special, Hughes provided material from his archives and one unreleased song is added to each album. These unreleased songs are exclusive to this ‘TEN Essential Remaster Series’ not to be found into any other release.
While some TEN albums are criticized by its production – in fact, for their too many layers of sound – with 2001’s “Far Beyond The World” Gary Hughes & Co. opted for a more ‘straight’ AOR / Melodic Rock recording, and the result is one of the best CD’s of the decade for the genre.
It’s that good…

These unreleased songs are exclusive to this ‘TEN Essential Remaster Series’ not to be found into any other release. The bonus on this ‘The Robe‘ reissue appeared as B-side and in the band’s live album in some countries, however this is a different mix.
TEN’s third album ”The Robe” always has been celebrated for its mix of their first melodies with a more hard rocking style, an advance of what they would develop in full on the next CD. On the other hand, the albums has been criticized for its muddy production. This remaster has improved the sound quality incredibly.

On ”Spellbound”, their fourth full length album the band hardened their sound, much more hard rock oriented, however the soaring melodies and Hughes AOR vocals are still there. ”Spellbound” includes some of my favorite TEN songs, and it’s another album them to treasure.

GARY HUGHES – Waterside (2021)

Released by Frontiers Music, “Waterside‘ is the first solo album of original material for GARY HUGHES in 14 years. Gary’s work with his band TEN offers a hard rock sound which is rooted in the tradition of bands such as UFO, Magnum, and Rainbow, however his solo material always offered a more melodic sound which has strong roots in the late ’80s AOR and Melodic Rock scene.
“Waterside,” marks his long awaited return to Melodic Rock. This is also his first new solo album since his ‘Veritas’ release well over a decade ago. Assisting Gary in the creation of this new solo album are his TEN bandmates Dann Rosingana (guitars) and Darrel Treece-Birch (drums, keys), with David Rosingana appearing on bass and Karen Fell and Scott Hughes helping on background vocals.
