MYSTERY - From Tusk Till Dawn [Japanese Edition] (2014) full

*

We presented some time ago the debut album from Aussie young hard rockers MYSTERY, which since released has produced some incredible achievements for the band. The first is that they are the world’s youngest band to have toured the globe as they have played shows in Europe, the USA and Japan, which is remarkable when you consider that they are still in their teens.
A second incredible statistic is that the quintet have toured and played with some Huge names including Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses and Twisted Sister, to name but a few. If you’ve played with big names like that, then it’s clear they see something good in you.
From Dusk Till Dawn” is the band’s second album and again produced by Stu Marshall (Empires Of Eden) contains 13 rocking tunes, plus a bonus track for this Japanese version.

The immediate impression at first listen in how Mystery have improved themselves as unit. They sound more impactful, tight, with stronger musicianship.
What has not changed – and even augmented – are the catchy choruses, the hooky riffs, as these guys from Down Under bring back that ’80s Hair Metal sound with a modern vibe and rockin’ swagger.
They are not reinventing the formula, but they are definitely breathing new life into genre of party rock anthems. Not only are they serving up hook-heavy rock anthems with insane melodies, their vocal harmonies are ready for the arenas and lighters (now cell phones) in the air.

MYSTERY - From Tusk Till Dawn [Japanese Edition] (2014) inside

“From Dusk Till Dawn” is just a rockin’ and fun album from high-octane start to finish.
The whole album rocks, especially with party anthems like “Let It Out”, “Wild And Free”, the kickin’ “Promised Land”, “Fight for You”, the very Motley “Die Another Day” and “The One And Only”. You will sing along to these songs, and you will sing out loud.
Then there’s more melodic hard oriented tunes in the semi-ballad “Looking Back” and the hooky “Living on the Road”.
Mystery are not afraid to record a couple of covers too; one being “I’m A Rocker” from metal giants Judas Priest, done in a cooool hair metal style, and the other “Run To Paradise” (from poppy melodic rock ’80s band The Choirboys).
Japanese bonus track “Nonstop to Nowhere” is a rocker including lyrics in Japanese, obviously a tribute to the fans of the land of the Rising Sun as Mystery are stars there.

MYSTERY - From Tusk Till Dawn [Japanese Edition] (2014) back cover

I think what makes “From Dusk Till Dawn” such a good and enjoyable album is that it’s very peppy and upbeat as for the most part, Mystery are all about rocking out and having fun, which is important to do when you are young.
This is a band to introduce new generations to classic melodic hard rock / hair metal, and they do the job quite well. They are growing faster as musicians, so don’t be fooled, these guys are very good players.
Fans of Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Trixter, etc will enjoy this record greatly.
