GRAND THEFT CULTURE – Grand Theft Culture EP (2015)
*
Today we bring to you a new Swedish act destined to make some waves in months to come: GRAND THEFT CULTURE and their self-titled EP.
Rising from the Swedish underground, seems Grand Theft Culture’s explosive live shows and outstanding blend of heavy rock n’ roll and groovy electronics caught the attention of world famous DJ/Producer Skrillex. He officially praised the group and posted their cover version of the song ‘Cinema’ on his Facebook page, creating an online buzz throughout the world.
Grand Theft Culture is fronted by singer and guitar-wonder-child Michel Santunione, known for his work in Scandinavian versions of musicals such as Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Rock of Ages’ and for touring the world with some of the biggest rock acts from Sweden as stage musician.
The rhythm section consists of Markus Hjalsten, a powerhouse drummer who is well known for his use of a Cymbal-Helmet© and his bombastic playing, and Johannes Sandberg on bass, who brings a heavy groove to the sound through his energetic style and remarkable use of distorted slapping.
The DJ, Erik Johansson, is the fourth member of the group, playing all the electronic samples live with a Launchpad through an amplifier to capture the organic sound onstage.
Their first single “Down The Line” encompasses the spirit of Grand Theft Culture and their exceptional mix of the electronic and the organic hard rock guitar riffs with massice choruses.
“Down The Line” is indeed a great sing along anthem that will get your rock and roll juices flowing.
Next up, the boys funk things up with the bump & grind groove of “Pushed Around”, then they put the hammer down with the balls-out rocker, “Cut You To Pieces”, a sick, twisted song born to be played at 11.
Closing things out on the EP is the crazy rocker “Touch The Sky”, that begins distorted and then morphs into a melodic poppy tune.
The energy, the talent and chemistry between Santunione, Sandberg and Hjalsten will without a doubt connect with a live audience which will help drive this group to the top.
Grand Theft Culture manages to combine a driving rock beat with a lyrically driven melody that together produce some truly entertaining, compelling and innovative rockin’ music.
The EP was recorded last year, but now revamped as the guys record their full album and tour for the second time at the entertainment capital of the world; Los Angeles, where the EP has created a local buzz in the Hollywood area.
I am definitely looking forward to Grand Theft Culture’s full length debut; they are fresh, original, and with a sense of fun not easy to find in today’s music.
If you are one of those people that likes to be the first to discover a great modern rockin’ act with a bright future ahead, you need to check out Grand Theft Culture now.
Highly Recommended.
