DARUSSO – Medicine For The Soul (2015)

We already heard Anton Darusso’s vocal abilities in the recent Wings Of Destiny album Time featured here on the blog. Well, now the singer got the opportunity to go solo simply as DARUSSO, presenting his own debut entitled “Medicine For The Soul“.
The guy is not a one trick pony, that’s for sure. Although really melodic, Wings Of Destiny is band with a strong metal foundation, and Darusso’s vocals fit in really well with that style.
However, “Medicine For The Soul” is a completely different beast: a hard rockin’, Eighties inspired collection of songs plenty of fire, akin ’87 Aerosmith, some Enuff Z’Nuff, David Lee Roth, Autograph, etc. Vocally, Anton at places sounds like Axl Rose, others like a young Coverdale, but essentially in a swaggerin’ Californian Sunset Strip style.
And I like it.
Really well balanced by catchy numbers such as “Love is Blind” or “Get Out Of Here”, midtempos (“Frozen Tears”), great ballads in “It’s Time For Love” and the awesome “Heaven”, arena-ready hymns like “Nothing To Hide” & “Ocean” (a Gorky Park cover) and acoustic cuts (“I Live For Love” is a highlight), the album flows easy and highly enjoyable.
Darusso’s debut “Medicine For The Soul” is a highly welcomed surprise. It’s varied, catchy, really well performed and produced. In a word: Rocks.
Rocks with lots of melody, clever vocal arrangements and an effective, tight backing band. I hope the Melodic Hard Rock scene take notice of this complete singer / performer, this is one of the best ‘solo’ debuts this year.
