SLASH – Live At The Roxy (2015)
*
Fans of ex Guns N’ Roses SLASH (and if you’re not, then you’re overdue a long, hard look at yourself) will be ecstatic about this new live Double CD / Blu-Ray / Triple vinyl set “Live At The Roxy” by Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Last year on September 25th, shortly after the release of their ‘World On Fire’ album, Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators took the stage at the legendary Roxy Theatre on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.
The atmospheric venue, steeped in Rock history, gave the audience a brilliant opportunity to experience the band up close as they delivered a set packed with more recent solo tracks, including several from the new album, and classics from Slash’s earlier career with Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver.
Singer Myles Kennedy – himself a fan magnet thanks to his work with AlterBridge and his distinctive vocals – & The Conspirators (bassist Todd Kerns, drummer Brent Fitz and touring guitarist Frank Sidoris) are red hot on the tiny Roxy stage smack bang in the middle of Los Angeles.
They tear through a selection taken mainly from the iconic Guns N’ Roses debut album Appetite For Destruction; ‘Nightrain’, an extended ‘Rocket Queen’ featuring some sweet and restrained soloing from Slash, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, a climactic ‘Paradise City’.
We have as well Slash’s cuts since going out alone (‘Ghost’, ‘Back From Cali’, ‘Bent To Fly’, ‘Starlight ‘(one of the best on his first solo album and delivered here brilliantly) a stormtrooping ‘World On Fire’ or Anastasia, and a couple from his other work (Velvet Revolver’s ‘Slither’ full of rebel energy and mayhem) and ‘You Could Be Mine’ from GNR Use Your Illusion.
The DVD and BluRay boast four bonus tracks including Gunners’ ‘You’re Crazy’ and three tracks from World On Fire, whereas the CD and LP versions add on ‘Doctor Alibi’ from Slash’s debut solo record, and a hard rocking version of ‘Halo’ from it’s follow-up, Apocalyptic Love – presumably in an attempt to make completists buy both variations.
The main man draws all eyes towards him with his unique playing style and perhaps the simple fact that he survived Guns N’ Roses in one piece and with his mojo intact, and he has all the room he needs to shine with such a shit-hot band holding up the rear.
“Live At The Roxy” is a hot, kickin’ live album featuring the songs fans want to hear, and that night at the Roxy Theatre Slash & The Conspirators were pretty inspired.
