Who said true classic rock / hard rock is dead in the USA? Austin, Texas based REDEMPTION BROTHERS are here to deny this affirmation with their great self-titled album.
Formed by veterans musicians from the local scene, Redemption Brothers indeed provide some kind of ‘redemption’ to the genre in the US.
The core of Redemption Brothers is Keith England on vocals and guitarist Lance Keltner. Both carry an obvious love for classic rock greatest acts, have soaked up their influences and created a bunch of terrific songs with an oiled, tight band.
The first thing that impress is the fuller sound, then the catchy songs, then the great production for an indie. I particularly love the pumping bass and punchy drums (usually buried in this type of self-releases), and of course, the excellent guitars which are the star on the album.
Yeah, Lance Keltner is the driving force of Redemption Brothers via valvular sounding riffs, a cool shuffle tone, and inspired solos. Keith England is owner of truly classic pipes, at places sounding like the more stylized side of Bon Scott, others like Gary Moore.
Damn, there’s not a single weak track on this album; ‘All About The Pain’ rocks with vintage gusto (love the atmospheric middle section), ‘The Truth’ is extremely catchy with its nice backing vocals, then the bluesy hard rocker ‘I Stay Gone’ is plenty of groove.
‘Fate’s Cruel Hand’ brings to mind the more muscular side of Rival Sons, the melodic ‘Down In Flames (Again)’ is a highlight, ‘Halfhearted Lover’ reminds me the great Steve Marriott, then the bouncy ‘Nuns & Scorpions’ close the album again with a catchy factor.
Almost with zero promotion, Redemption Brothers have released one of the more exciting, true from the heart, classic / hard rock collection of songs I heard recently.
These guys are great players, their songs seriously rock and production is pure gold for an indie.
Don’t let this one slips under your radar.
