Southampton, UK quartet HERCULES MORSE caught my attention when I saw their fresh album “Equine Size Comparison” rated with KKKK (4/5) by Kerrang! Magazine.
Self-managed, the band released a celebrated debut EP at the end of past year and now appear this “Equine Size Comparison”, completing the 11 tracks / full album.

Hercules Morse play classic British rock going from hard rock to melodic, almost Rock&pop melodies, a blend that makes you want to listen to it again, and you listen with ease. Some comparisons have them dropping some stoner-rock vibe. But I don’t get that.
Yeah, ‘Asleep At The Wheel’ or ‘Do It Right’ have a heaviness, but the simple liveliness and spunk of the music would have you throwing back some brews at a kegger rather than getting stoned sleepy.
Most the tracks on “Equine Size Comparison” are instantly infectious, pretty damn catchy classic rock stuff.

There’s an abundance of melody and harmony, from riffs to sweet vocal arrangements. The riffage is brisk and lively, the bottom end sturdy and riveting with groove. Being stewards of the British rock tradition, there’s also a plethora of guitar solos. Moreover, as the elements are cast in the arrangements, the songs pop, they reach out and hook from the twists in the riffs to the catchy refrains.

There’s a bouncy rocker on ‘Good Old Days’ with lovely lyrics about the magic lost when you used to go to a record store, then ‘All About Me’ pulses rather darkly and is comfortable – like the rest of the record – in being big, bold and brash.
This is not a band to stand meekly looking at their shoes on stage. Rather you’d think, you hope anyway, that they’d swagger at you and demand you enjoyed them.

Wrongly tagged as stoner rock, Hercules Morse are indeed classic rock, classic British rock with a equal parts of hard rock / melodic pop all squeezed into a punchy delivery.
“Equine Size Comparison” is party music, good times and feeling-good music.
I like it, everything about it.
