STAR CRYSTAL – Revival Of Glam (2017)
We have already featured at 0dayrox the previous album by STAR CRYSTAL, and now only a year after, the band – always fronted by the dangerous curves of singer Susanna Radimovskaya – are presenting their brand new record “Revival Of Glam“.
If you missed Star Crystal’s previous post then you must know the group hails from Ukraine, but nothing – from the music on offer to Susanna’s accent-free vocals – makes you guess this band is from East Europe.
Star Crystal delivery is decidedly ‘American’, that’s being a mix of classic ’80s US Hard Rock with early ’90s Melodic Hard commercialism, easy to the ears. These timeless genres have no frontiers and Star Crystal play ’em here much better than acts born in the States.
Of course Star Crystal exploits Radimovskaya’s hot looks in terms of band image, but let me tell you the girl is much more than a gracious figure. Her pipes are strong, precise and in perfect pitch. Additionally, you’ll love her timbre.
The rest of the guys in the band are solid as well, and all songs have a considerable keyboard presence which I love.
Opener ‘Dancing All Night’ is a cool rocker but not the best song on the album, in fact, it’s the lesser. Cool but nothing more, but best is yet to come.
Then on 2nd cut ‘My Heaven’ the band show their credentials and what a great track it is. Think Romeo’s Daughter or the more AORish side of Vixen. This one sounds like recorded in 1989, and fear not, production is excellent for an indie release.
‘Fall in Love’ is another killer tune with some edge and a killer chorus and ‘that’ keyboard stabs, ‘Freedom’ goes for a sharp Melodic Rock circa 1991, then midtempo ‘Pray’ adds a hard rock groove and room for Radimovskaya’s vocals to shine.
There’s more quality material on the prime AOR of ‘Show Me Your Love’ (reminds me of Saraya), the bouncy ‘American Dream’ (akin Robin Beck), the melodic rocker ‘Rock Star’, and the solid ‘Bliss’ which you could compare to Dante Fox.
Coming out from nowhere, Star Crystal already surprised us last year with a very good album. Now with ‘Revival Of Glam’ they grew up in all departments.
I think this is not the best title for this record, not glam at all but pure ’80s / early ’90s Melodic Hard Rock stuff spiced with lovely AOR dashes.
This band needs to be signed by a major specialized label in the genre… NOW.
