MARCO MENDOZA – Viva La Rock (2018)
MARCO MENDOZA is a renowned bass player having recorded in classic albums of John Sykes, Ted Nugent, Blue Murder, Black Star Riders (just to name a few) and currently is part of great rockers The Dead Daisies. He also has a solo career, and tomorrow March 2, 2018 will release his long-awaited new solo album, “Viva La Rock“, featuring guest appearances by Guns N’ Roses and former White Lion members.
The disc was recorded in Copenhagen with the multi-talented producer and guitar player Søren Andersen, responsible to the sound design of Mike Tramp and Glenn Hughes last albums.
With the title track “Viva La Rock” thrusting out of the speakers as a worthy invitation to come and listen, Marco then takes you on a roller coaster of musical emotions and sounds with a number of potential hit singles like “Rocketman”, “Sue Is On The Run” and the ballad “Leah”.
With a cauldron full of influences, including bluesy hard rock, funk and R&B, there is something for everyone that loves great, timeless Rock music, and for good measure there’s a little of his past thrown in with a visit to “Chinatown” (Thin Lizzy classic), complete with a guest appearance by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus and former White Lion singer Mike Tramp on additional vocals, then the hot Ted Nugent cover “Hey Baby”.
The album closes out “Let It Flow”, a midtempo with an ’80s AORish feel, which rounds out this exceptionally fine record in some real style.
This is easy; is you loved last Glenn Hughes album ‘Resonate’, then you’ll enjoy Mendoza’s “Viva La Rock”.
Marco sings with the right modulation these classic rock songs needed, and Andersen orchestrates everything with his precise melodic guitar riffs. This dude is a terrific player, both in rhythm guitar and soloing.
On a couple of heavy funk numbers there’s some Richie Kotzen feel, then some Black Country Communion, a bit of Chickenfoot, and of course, The Dead Daisies.
This Mendoza / Søren Andersen collaboration proved to be the right way forward with the chemistry exploding in the studio, writing and producing some of the finest new classic rock songs that are screaming out to be heard through Rock Radio all over the world.
“Viva La Rock” is the epitome of Classic Rock. This album will appeal to lovers of 70s / 80s style from the genre, it has a little bit for everyone.
