RUST N’ RAGE – Tales From The Wasteland (2018)
Finland’s youngest and most hard hitting bands, RUST N’ RAGE will release their new album “Tales From The Wasteland” tomorrow April 13 in their native country. The album will be released by MelodicRock Records worldwide in months to come.
Almost at their teens, Rust N’ Rage released their debut five years ago, not featured here on this blog due its amateurish presentation, almost a demo poorly arranged & recorded.
Well, half a decade made its work on these guys and 2018 Rust N’ Rage sound like a solid unit.
“Tales From The Wasteland” is fully produced, very well mixed, and fundamentally, all musicians can play and they have composed some darn fine rockin’ ’80s inspired tunes.
Rust N’ Rage always mentioned Guns N’ Roses as main influence, and you can tell that on opener “Midnight Train”. Specifically 1990-91 / Use Your Illusion polished era.
But the Axl & co. influence ends here.
Then track 2 “Dancing on the Edge” come out of the speakers, and let me tell you this is ‘one of the songs of the year’ for me. Take the bite of Vinnie Vincent Invasion and the melody of Slaughter and you get this baby. It seriously rocks, and there’s a detailed production elevating the song quality.
“Riding on the Storm” isn’t short in quality: kick ass rhythm guitar, punchy rhythm section and heavenly harmony vocals… wow, this sounds like a mix o Mama’s Boys, Heavy Pettin’, Bronz, etc. circa 1985 – you know what I mean – but with a modern, huge production.
More classic stuff comes by the hand of midtempo “Hungry for the World” (1983 Def Leppard vibe), some American sleazy (LA Guns) appear in “Lethal Injections of Love”, then the dry riff of “Maze of Pleasures” reminds me of 1987 Pretty Maids. Killer!
“Take It Off” is all about party metal including cowbell – something Trixter could have wrote, “Revolution” brings some sleaze (Euro) to the table with a dash of Crashdiet, and if you needed more variation, ‘Dreamcatcher’ is a lovely midtempo AOR tune resembling Fair Warning or Zeno.
Have you read above? The guys in Rust N’ Rage not only incredibly grew up as musicians, but also amalgamated all their influences / eras into a wonderfully crafted CD.
And all feels and sounds so natural… you have ’80s European and American sound-like tunes, made with Rust N’ Rage own style. Kudos to the production because while capturing the 1983-1987 magic, it’s absolutely up to date, punchy but polished.
Another surprise this year.
