NIGHTCRAWLER – Metropolis [vinyl LP edition]
“Metropolis“, the amazing debut of NIGHTCRAWLER is being released on vinyl-LP, for the first time on physical format. Nightcrawler is the alter-ego of George Gold. This day designer, co-founder of Medusateam studio based in Lleida, like the classic superheroes, when night turns, puts on his uniform of Nightcrawler and leave the designer work to become a retro-futuristic hero and unleashes his musical ideas, always based on the retro sounds of the ’80s, synths and dark atmospheres.
“Metropolis” is some kind of fascinating movie translated to a music LP. There’s a story:
“Year 3015. Humanity has been victim of their own cruelty. The fight for the power and wars that take place because of the shortage of fossil energies and water led to World War III. There were no winner countries this time. All the humanity was the big loser because of nuclear bombs.
Only one city survives after the apocalypse. The last survivors of this tragedy live in there. If you are one of them and you have manage to survive, this is your city. Welcome to Metropolis.”
Entirely composed and designed by Nightcrawler and mastered by Italian producer Vincenzo Salvia, “Metropolis” is 13 tracks (plus 1 digi bonus) a fascinating combo of Eighties synthwave, synthpop , spacewave, and synth-terror in its purest form.
So begins this journey with an intro called ‘The Escape’ where a voiceover introduces us to the movie that starts playing, and reach the powerful and strong ’80s rhythms with ‘Dystopia’ featuring Vincenzo Salvia.
We have again the voice of the narrator in ‘Megaforce’ and connection-intro with radio stations ‘Outlaw’ to launch the Lamborghini, and walk around the lost city with ‘Road Blaster’, sexy and erotic environments with ‘The House Of Pleasure’ and get on the spaceship to fly the city ‘Spacecraft‘.
There’s epic as well as dreamy moments with the sweet ‘The Legacy’ feat Diana Gitallog, while things turn straight ’80s pop with singer Dana Jean Phoenix on the track ‘Genesis’, and more dark in the collaboration with Barcelona producer Simøne on the title-track ‘Metropolis’ (one of my favs).
The closing epilogue arrives with the spacey ‘Odyssey’, then as bonus track the enigmatic and magical ‘Broken Dreams’ conclude this great ‘musical movie’ by this talented musician, producer & designer called Nightcrawler.
“Metropolis” is a fascinating album on all aspects, much more than just a regular synthwave release.
Yes, it’s always focused on ’80s synth / keyboards, but this is a record that covers a massive ranges of styles and genres with some marvellous atmospheric pieces, and a welcomed collaborative work with outside artists / vocalists which provide variation and color.
An integral piece of work plenty of magic, beautifully arranged & performed.
Production is top notch, carefully done in detail (there was one year on the making), and this vinyl LP sounds incredibly pristine.
80’s freaks, this is HIGHLY Recommended
