RICK SPRINGFIELD – Orchestrating My Life (2019)
Grammy award winning, Australian rocker RICK SPRINGFIELD presents brand new ‘rock-meets-orchestral’ recordings of a lifetime of hits. Titled ‘Orchestrating My Life’, the new album is a career-defining re-visitation of hits from Rick Springfield.
The album, released April 26, features all the hits you know re-recorded with an electrifying mix of rock and orchestral arrangements, plus a new song.
Rick’s seventeenth studio album features new versions of ‘Jessie’s Girl’, ‘Don’t Talk To Strangers’, ‘Love Somebody’, ‘Human Touch’ and eight other classics.
These new takes sound like the originals but with added orchestral arrangements. In reality, all the song’s sound is ‘rock’, with electric guitars, bass, drums, synths, mixed with – mostly – string arrangements of violin, cellos, etc.
In fact, some of these timeless Springfield tunes now are more rocking than before.
One song that I was surprised didn’t make the cut – simply because it’s one of my favorites and he’s played it before at symphony shows – is ‘Souls’, off of “Living In Oz.”
On the other hand, the one song that I wasn’t expecting here was ‘World Start Turning’. The new treatment includes the ‘orchestra’ only in the background (feels like a synth arrangement in fact) and overall is very rocking.
Don’t be afraid; ‘Orchestrating My Life’ isn’t a ‘crooning’ album with orchestra. It rocks, where the power pop originals now are ‘rockin-ized‘. There’s the great Tim Pierce playing guitar solos on many tracks.
You can’t go wrong with these songs. All are among Rick Springfield’s finest.
