PETER FRAMPTON BAND – All Blues (2019)
“All Blues” is the new album from the PETER FRAMPTON BAND. The LP is a collection of Frampton’s favorite blues classics and was recorded with his longtime touring band, made up of Adam Lester (guitar/vocals), Rob Arthur (keyboards/guitar/vocals) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums), plus some star guests such as Deep Purple’s Steve Morse, Larry Carlton and more.
‘All Blues’ captures Frampton at full technical and emotional power. All the selections are very good Blues songs, which the British guitarist and his oiled interprets beautifully.
For guitar enthusiasts, the album will prove to be a treasure trove of six-string riches, with Frampton stretching out luxuriously on what could be viewed as a Great American Songbook of the Blues.
Like many of the British rock guitarists who emerged in the ‘60s and ‘70s, Peter Frampton was raised on American Blues and played it early on in his career.
Recent jams with Steve Miller re-sparked his passion for the genre. Frampton and his current band deliver the goods on a full-length set of classic gems, including the Miles Davis penned title track, B.B. King’s signature “The Thrill is Gone” (featuring Sonny Landreth) and the ubiquitous “I Just Wanna Make Love to You.”
“Going Down Slow” rocks, with Steve Morse in an intense solo duel with Peter.
Peter Frampton remains one of the most lauded artists in rock history, and I think “All Blues” is a logical end circle for his career – next week will kick off Peter Frampton Finale – The Farewell Tour.
However, the thrill is definitely not gone for Peter Frampton.
