CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD – Sonic Forces (2020)
Swedish melodic rockers CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD are releasing their new album “Sonic Forces” via AOR Heaven Records, and from the Back To The Future related cover art you can see these guys seems to be happy sailing ’80s seas.
Produced by Dave Dalone (H.E.A.T), the Beards sound huge like never before.
They begin with “Headlights” where the voice of Martin Holsner shines above all and the Eighties-type synthesizers, and the band invites you to dance. They don’t stop putting charcoal in the machine with the fun “Lights and Shadows”.
If you had any doubts about the title of “Disco Volante”, they want us to move the skeleton, don’t stand still, and don’t forget to applaud from your balcony or window that in these times comforts.
And it gets elegant with the midtempo of “Tonight”: satin nights, fat moon, AOR 100%. It brings to mind Swedes Care Of Night. A highlight. Title track is pure Scandi melodic rock, with some Tommy Denander’s Radioactive on it.
And the album only gets better and better with the anthemic “Young Hearts“ and “Midnight Cruiser“, where fans of H.E.A.T and Creye will be in heaven.
“Gotham City” bring more ’80s references, the passion for comics is reflected in the lyrics of the song itself, while closer “Empitness” mix equal dose of melodic rock and classic AOR.
“Sonic Forces” is the best CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD album to date, and if you dig the Classic Scandinavian stuff in this genre plus 80s culture, this record is a pure delight.
