KROKUS – The Blitz [Rock Candy remastered & reloaded]

KROKUS - The Blitz [Rock Candy remastered & reloaded] full

The Blitz” was Swiss hard rock pioneers KROKUS first ‘American’ album, including the hit “Ballroom Blitz”. Rock Candy Records did a much needed remaster of this LP, for many Krokus’ best, as it mixes the band’s early attack with a radio friendly approach.
Riding high on a wave of creative and commercial success, in 1984 Krokus was ready to have the world at their feet. In just four short years the band had risen from obscurity in Europe to become major players on the world’s stages, particularly in the USA, where their previous album ‘HeadHunter’ sold a million copies and lodged itself at number twenty five on the album chart.

So at this point in their career all eyes were on the band, expecting them to continue their upward trajectory but internally all was not as it should’ve been.
The band’s constant touring and recording cycle was proving too much for founding member and bassist Chris von Rohr who opted to leave the band, forcing line up changes with guitarist Mark Kohler switching to bass and the recruitment of new drummer Jeff Klaven (ex Cobra).

The importance of the band’s high ranking status was underscored by the appointment of talented producer Bruce Fairbairn (flanked by engineers Bob Rock and Mike Fraser) a man who had guided the recording career of Canadian rockers Loverboy to platinum heights, and who would later find huge success with Bon Jovi and AC/DC.

Fairbairn’s ear for commercialism took the band in a new streamline, but still hard rock direction, one highlighted by electrifying tracks such as “Midnite Maniac”, “Boys Night Out” (written by Bryan Adams) and a tub thumping cover of the Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz”.

Again with Jimi Jamison doing harmony vocals, “The Blitz” is perhaps the most glossy, best sounding recording by Krokus. This Rock Candy remaster has rescued the bass, hidden low frequencies and a general refreshed ambiance.
