As requested, here’s the Dutch band BLACK KNIGHT cult debut a album “Tales From The Darksideremastered for the first time, pressed on limited quantities vinyl LP.
Black Knight have been active since 1982, but this, their debut was recorded in 1998. However, they sound just like what they are, a band from the ’80s. A classic, traditional metal act from the ’80s.
Their stylistic choices are not restricted to European metal or NWoBHM. The album takes you all the way from British and German metal pioneers to the United States. A blend of Iron Maiden, Queensryche, early Judas Priest, Sabbath-Dio era, etc, and a touch of progressive.

Good, old fashioned traditional metal is what you are going to find when you spin “Tales From The Darkside”. If you have been missing the sound of straight forward classic metal with melody then look no further.
The music that the band creates does not come from a yearning for 80s music – these guys were there.

Black Knight faced some lean years but managed to continue to create the music that they had always loved. The band originated in the early 80s and never got around to recording anything until they decided to enter into the studio in 1998 and record / release “Tales From The Darkside” by themselves.
Tales From The Darkside contains 9 songs of pure, unadulterated classic metal that is a homage to the band’s early roots but is still relevant in the year 2020. Timeless stuff.

“Story of the Day” opens the disc with its early 80s British sound. Black Sabbath / Dio era Neon Knights comes to mind with singer / songwriter Pieter Bas Borger displaying his considerable vocal talents.
“Irish Boy” is a cross between early Riot and Iron Maiden, mixing hard rock groove with that traditional twin guitar riffs.

The horror of being buried alive is explored in the track “Excavated”. Other standout tracks include “Profound”, which deals with the Hebrews escape from bondage in Egypt and contains some great guitar harmonies and melodic passages, plus the use of keyboards which I like a lot.
“Warrior” focuses on the relationship between soldiers who get injured in the line of duty and how their governments turn their backs on them when they are heroes and were only doing their jobs. An intense song with some interesting progressive arrangements.

Black Knight are good at what they do; creating classic, traditional metal. They sound tight, strong, with a very good musicianship. Production even feels like something straight out of the ’80s with a guitar sound at times reminiscent of 1981 Priest and Black Sabbath.
If classic metal with melody is your cup of tea, then by all means you need to hear “Tales From The Darkside”. And yes, it’s being released on vinyl LP, this album belongs to LP. And the remaster is pristine and warm.
