Cult classic second album “Too Much, Ain’t Enough” (1988) from SEDUCE is being reissued / remastered including a bonus track. This is a band which at the time of this recording got a unique sound integrating the weightiness and authenticity of classic rock, unabashed brassiness of glam, danger of Detroit grit, and the ferocity of American metal.
Best known for their appearance in Penelope Spheeris’ cult film ‘The Decline and Fall of Western Civilization Part II’, SEDUCE were the only band not based in Los Angeles to be featured in the documentary.

Seduce started out as just another band in the Detroit metal scene which was exploding in the 80s and quickly gained a large fanatical following, one that still exists today when fond memories are recalled during various reunion shows. Still, let’s pass on by the inevitable break-up, drug use and intellectual property right court cases and look at the music.
1988’s ”Too Much, Ain’t Enough” was the follow-up to the band’s 1986’s self-titled effort and is vastly superior in terms of overall song quality. The whole album is full of that low end big bass sound which I love, and it gives the songs a real energetic feel to them.

The album exhibits a sort of grittier glam metal sound that came out of Los Angles at the time, but much nore gritty, abrasive. That is just the thing that this album satisfies. It is gritty, with a good balance of glam rock and ball kicking, full out American metal. The contrast is like black and white on some songs.
“Crash Landing” is full out rapid riffs, whereas the second track “Watching” is more of a blues hard rock piece, with fluid guitar fills and a moody, well, bluesy solo.
The opener, “Anytime Or Place” is more of a “glam-ish” number, with a dash of metalness thrown in for good measure. Another prime example is the final track “The Slider”, which is a downright sleazy number with lots of swagger.
The pace slows with “Empty Arms”, but this track is simply awesome, midpaced heavy and melodic.

There’s a ‘big reverb’ all over this album, so ’80s. And I mean ‘huge’. Some may like it, some not, but it’s pure ’80s. That’s one of the reasons “Too Much, Ain’t Enough” is quite different: it’s like glam metal crash American metal… and I’d said ‘crash’, not ‘meet’.

Wow, as a native Detroiter, I can’t thank you enough for this post. Seduce was THE premiere local band in the Motor City in the 80’s. Thankfully, they still reuinte annually for us hard core fans. File under “shoulda been bigger”.

Local heroes that could only get people to listen to a cover version of a early punk rock single. Guitar player is a major dickweed.
