Some of you asked for PAT TRAVERS‘ album “Crash And Burn” in this Japanese Remastered Edition (Limited Release) on SHM-CD which really worth the investment. Originally released in 1980, “Crash And Burn” was the Pat Travers Band’s highest-charting release, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard album chart.
The single ‘Snortin’ Whiskey’, co-written by Travers and fellow band member guitarist Pat Thrall, became a significant hit on American FM Radio, reaching the number one position on playlists all over the country.
After this record, Travers will pursue a more melodic orientation (which I prefer), but I have to admit that “Crash and Burn” rocks with its blues-based hard rock with loads of raucous guitar and attitude.

As with past Pat Travers albums, however, there are a large variety of sounds and styles.
Title track “Crash And Burn”, as example, was a departure from Pat Travers’ usual guitar-oriented material, and was basically a keyboard song driven by the band’s dynamic rhythm section of Peter ‘Mars’ Cowling on bass, and legendary drummer Tommy Aldridge.
On the other hand, “Can’t Be Right” is the lone metal number on this disc. Another of the highlights is the Bob Marley cover “Is This Love” re-done in a bluesy way, “Born Under A Bad Sign” (originally done by Albert King) and “(Your Love) Can’t Be Right”, which was also released as a single.

RICHIE KOTZEN - I'm Coming Out (2011)tracks

“Crash And Burn” would be the last ‘hard rocking’ album by Pat Travers, with a strong late Seventies vibe and a lively feel. It’s a classic for many, especially those who grew up listening this on vinyl LP.
This Japanese remaster on SHM-CD was done with that ‘warm vinyl’ sound in mind: it’s very clear but with a great dynamic range, not brickwalled at all.
Highly Recommended
