JOSH DALLY – Speak Your Mind (2022)
Even if you’re a casual fan of the booming synthwave genre you’ve probably heard JOSH DALLY‘s voice. The singer and multi-instrumentalist has appeared on the stone cold classic synthwave album with Timecop1983’s ‘Night Drive’ (featured at 0dayrox), as well as his other brilliant another alliance with Adrian Quesada Michelena for two albums as AT 1980 (yes the genre loves those ’80s year references) both reviewed by 0dayrox too.
Now the songwriter is finally going it alone for his debut solo album “Speak Your Mind“.
JOSH DALLY’s music is much, much more than synthwave. There’s a lot of guitar work on this album. This is a true ’80s inspired record utilizing real instruments; he play electric guitar / bass / drums as well as synths of course.
The unmistakable timbre of Josh’s voice takes you back to 1987 when talented solo artists populated the rock&pop charts. “Creating music that sounds like a soundtrack to the movie of your life has always been a goal for me” says Dally. Listening to “Speak Your Mind” I think he’s succeeded.
The great thing about “Speak Your Mind” is how the music resonates with listeners, even people that weren’t alive in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Yes, most of Dally’s fans attending his gigs are in their twenties.
And I really think that happens because you can connect to these songs, it doesn’t matter your age. Listening to the album songs, in one way or another, you feel ’em attached to another life event or feeling. That’s what makes music so powerful, it’s the combination of the music and where, when, and who you listen to it with.
I think “Speak Your Mind” doesn’t belongs to the synthwave genre; this is a rock&pop album with an ’80s flavor. Dally’s voice is something special, such unique, melodic, dreamy at places. He’s also very skilled on electric guitar.
This is a finely crafted album of ‘real, not auto-tune’ songs to get lost in. It’s the perfect album for a summer drive with the windows down and the volume up.
