RUSH – Fly By Night [40th Anniversary Remaster Blu-Ray Audio 24bit/96kHz] *HQ*
“Fly By Night” is without a doubt the album which turned international attention to RUSH, perhaps the most famous (and important) Canadian Rock band in history.
This influential recording has been freshly remastered from the original master tapes at 24bit/96kHz to be released only on 200-gram heavyweight vinyl and Blu-Ray Pure Audio Disc.
If you have a “Fly By Night” remastered CD, take notice that this is a complete different beast. This is a new, different remaster carefully done to suit the vinyl / Blu-ray formats – done at legendary Abbey Road Studios using the Direct to Metal Mastering (DMM) audiophile copper plating process, all from original analogue masters. Additionally, the track “By-Tor and the Snow Dog” has an extended ending, as originally recorded.
After its original release, “Fly By Night” defined much of the Rock music to come in subsequent years. The first Rush album featuring super talented drummer, percussionist and songwriter Neil Peart, certainly made waves. Still remember the first time I heard “Anthem”… jaw dropping and innovative.
This is the album that for sure introduced us to Rush’s trademark sound and transformed them overnight into a cohesive band with purpose and direction. Neil’s lyrics and incredible drumming, along with Geddy’s intricate bass both sound empassioned, but this really is Alex’s album, the standard of the guitar work and the techniques, much of which he learnt instinctively, are stunning and were at the time quite new.
The track playing order is perfect too, it’s a journey of light and dark, ups and downs with some outstanding instrument wizardry and yet mellow calmer reflective moments too.
‘Anthem’ is a rock song a decade ahead of its time, the prog suite ‘By-Tor and the Snow Dog’ of course seems to list on every version of every ‘best of CD’ ever put out purely for the sheer scale of the musicianship, the bass and guitar battle still stands up today – and this was recorded almost 50 years ago!
Needless to say this first Rush ‘sounding’ album is one of quality with every single track demonstrating the band’s versatility and inventiveness. Later experience meant that of course some better songs were to follow but as a statement of what they were about do, this began it all.
Geddy and especially Alex found their individual sounds here and the now sorely missed Legend that is Neil Peart was first introduced to the world. This is an absolutely essential album for any fan of good music.
This superbly crisp remastered version is excellent. It’s been shaped up brilliantly with brighter high end, fuller bass and cleaner vocals, I recall the vocal on ‘Rivendell’ on the old vinyl to be very quiet but balance has been restored, and incidentally that song is a perfect example of the breadth of style this album demonstrates.
This 24bit/96kHz Blu-Ray remaster is simply awesome. An immersive listening experience to enjoy “Fly By Night” at full range.
