ASKARI – Askari [Japan-only release] (1998) ~Rare~ *0dayrox Exclusive*
Now here’s a request, a true rarity and one of the best melodic rock / AOR albums from the second half of the ’90s: ASKARI 1998’s self-titled “Askari“, only released in Japan. Originally Alan Askari himself put out the CD in limited quantities / promo, but the only official / label release is this Japanese edition, and includes an extra, bonus track.
Alan Askari is an European singer / songwriter / guitarist of Belgian origins, with roots in classic rock from the Seventies / Eighties. And he crafted this awesome collection of classy-sounding Melodic Rock.
Plenty of melodic hooks, his smooth voice and a crew of capable musicians, “Askari” also sports shiny, brilliant production for the genre handled by German expert Tommy Newton (Victory, Helloween). Take as reference Robby Valentine or Mitch Malloy first solo album, however Alan Askari overall style is instantly likeable. And he’s a fine guitarist too dropping some melodic solos to boot.
Seriously, “Askari” is a ‘lost gem’ much sought after by collectors, a delicious AOR album that deserved major exposure – it was 1998 and none was interested in release this type of music – so thanks Avalon Japan!
