There has been various reissues of THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT classic 1980’s album “The Turn Of A Friendly Card” over the years, and all good. But perhaps this new Limited DeLuxe Edition remastered Box Set just released by Esoteric Recordings is the definitive.
This new DeLuxe Edition comprises 3CDs and a Blu-ray disc with a bunch of additional tracks drawn from Eric Woolfson’s songwriting diaries, a lot of studio session versions, outtakes, and a high resolution remastered original stereo mix.
Being just a kid, I grew up listening a hefty collection of LP’s from AC/DC, Journey, Styx, TOTO, Deep Purple, etc – but among them a copy of “The Turn Of A Friendly Card”. I was always amazed by this album, and how Parsons & Co. were able to create a proggy piece of art still FM radio friendly with such pristine production.
So it’s great to hear now not only the main album freshly remastered, but also the recording process of these wonderful tunes – the true creative stage of an ’80s album recording, months of detailed work into the studio, something impossible to achieve today.
Simply one of the greatest recordings ever made.
