DISTANT PAST – Solaris (2024) HQ *0dayrox Exclusive*
Switzerland classic metal purveyors DISTANT PAST return with a tremendous new release entitled “Solaris” relased today. Recorded by the same line up since a decade, the new LP takes the sonic attack a step further.
As in the old – and good – fashioned way, “Solaris” includes 10 tracks, some road-tested, await the listener and serve fully fledged, pure and stainless Metal. The songs take you through all the light and shade of a NWOBHM influenced, classic Heavy Metal of old.
Inspired by Stanislaw Lem’s legendary novel “Solaris”, the album takes you on a journey beyond space to discover your deepest inner – the love for screaming twin guitars, high-pitched vocals, pounding drums, pumping basslines and melodies from beyond the stars – just like in the glory days.
Between 2002 and 2016, Distant Past were active as a studio project and thus released three albums. In 2019, the two members who are also part of Emerald, JayJay Julmy (vocals) and Adriano Troiano (bass) finally managed to put together a line-up that allowed them to face a new phase in the Swiss career.
“Solaris” is made up of incredibly catchy traditional heavy metal themes, with rhythms and melodies from the school of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and with spectacular solos. The songs are punchy, to the point, to fit a 40 minute album, and the overall sound is forged as a cohesive unit.
Distant Past doesn’t get lost in unnecessary paths, they rock, directly and with intensity. That’s why “Solaris” is a very well listenable, totally absorbing record that should particularly appeal to fans of traditional metal from the early ’80s.
