KORITNI – Night Goes On For Days (2015)
*
Formed in 2006 by Australian singer / songwriter Lex Koritni, since then KORITNI has been ascending through the ranks of the international melodic hard rock scene with an ever-increasing influence.
KORITNI already have 3 studio albums under their belt (the last featured on the blog), has played with Scorpions, Mr. Big, etc, and now are presenting “Night Goes On For Days“, their new CD, as usual produced by Lex Koritni.
Behind the mixing console there’s legendary Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Europe, Rush), and again the mastering was done at at Sterling Sound NY by engineer Ryan Smith (AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses…) who took care of the last three releases.
“Night Goes On For Days” is a bit more ‘classy’ in sound than its predecessor, still melodic hard rocking, yet more organic.
Lex is a complete singer with a flexible register, always in control and harmonic with a timbre that reminds me Gary Cherone (Extreme). In fact, many tracks on this album bring to mind Cherone’s present band Hurtsmile.
One of the highlights of this band is the formidable rhythm section, specially Chris Brown’s excellent drumming which together the fat groove of Dean Hunter’s bass provides a mammoth foundation for the biting guitars.
With titles such as “Horns Up!”, “Rock ‘N’ Roll Ain’t No Crime” or “Seal The Deal” you can expect fun and entertaining hard rock cuts (some recalling Mr. Big and today’s Helix), while there’s more rootsy classic rockers on “Water Of Life” and “Try To Live”.
“Little Man” adds some blues to its hard rock foundation, “Carousel” and “Woman in Love” throw acoustics into the mix, while “Night Goes On For Days”, “Breakdown” and closer “Waking up the Neighbors” rock too, yet with a more Melodic Hard Rock feel, specially the choruses.
I’m sure “Night Goes On For Days” will bring new listeners to the Koritni camp; to their traditional melodious hard rock, Lex and the guys have added a classic feel to these rockers turning this new album much more warm with a wider potential appeal.
To a great extent, this result also must be credited to the first rate mix & engineering. We have as guests the rhythm section of legendary French hard rockers Trust, plus the first studio recording from John Coghlan (Status Quo) since 1985.
Really good stuff.
