“Magnet To Steele”, the long out of print and one & only album by Canadian female rocker CHRISSY STEELE, finally was reissued some time ago. The record was in fact the brainchild of talented Brian ‘Too Loud’ MacLeod (Chilliwack, Headpins), his last contribution to the Melodic Hard Rock world before sadly succumbed to cancer at the age 39.

Chrissy Steele was already a veteran of the Canadian bar scene with her bands Room Service and Reform School when she was asked to join MacLeod’s The Headpins in late 1989, following the departure of lead singer Darby Mills.
The material featured on “Magnet To Steele” was originally slated to be a Headpins album, but due the growing unrest with their label and MacLeod’s illness, it was decided the album already in the works should be released as Chrissy’s solo debut rather than an actual ‘Headpins’ record.

Despite his medical condition, MacLeod still managed to put his indelible mark on the project, as well as playing all guitars, bass, background vocals and producing the album, as sharing engineering and programming duties with cult AOR artist Tim Feehan.

All songs are co-written by MacLeod / Tim Feehan (“Two Lips” together with Loverboy’s Mike Reno) minus “Armed And Dangerous” by MacLeod / Jeff Paris and “Cry Myself To Sleep” penned by Mutt Lange, so you can expect top class stuff here.
Chrissy Steele has a strong set of pipes to match, from a gut wrenching delivery on the hard rocker “Move Over” to her sweet sounding voice on the Heart-like power ballad “Love Don’t Last Forever” (featuring Mark Slaughter on background vocals) and the elegant AOR of “Cry Myself To Sleep”.

Chrissy vocal tone recalls, of course, Darby Mills, with a touch of Lee Aaron for good measure on the harder songs, while Ann Wilson’s influence emerge on the more melodious moments of the record.
You can’t go wrong with “Magnet To Steele”, a great female fronted Melodic Hard Rock album to treasure and enjoy.
