PUSHKING COMMUNITY – One Shot Deal (2015)
Some kind of a cult band in their native Russia, Pushking now re-named as PUSHKING COMMUNITY are releasing their new album “One Shot Deal“.
We already featured on the blog their previous album, the band’s ‘international’ presentation including guest stars such as Paul Stanley, Graham Bonnet, Glenn Hughes, Jeff Scott Soto, Joe Lynn Turner, Nuno Bettencourt and many more.
“One Shot Deal” features some guest too in the form of Mark Tremonti or talented Tobias Sammet (Avantasia, Edguy, etc.) providing vocals, but this album is mostly a Pushking Community own affair, and a darn fine it is.
We have here over 70min. of classic hard rock driven by a double guitar attack, the raspy (and catchy) vocals of Konstantin “Koha” Shustarev and a thumping rhythm section.
Think early ’90s Ozzy Osbourne (homaged in one song) sound with that Zakk Wylde crazy guitar licks, mixed with the melodic approach of some Swedish modern Melodic Hard Rock acts.
Songs like the killer title track “One Shot Deal”, the groovy “5 Minutes to Go”, the classy ” Faster, Deeper, Higher”, the pounding “Give into the Moment” or the heavy “It’s a Shot in My Head” are all compelling hot hard rockers really well composed & performed.
Pushking Community turns more melodic in the commercial “Excuse Me”, the mid-tempo “Set Me Free” featuring Tobias Sammet on lead vocals, the ballad “Hey Babe” (sung by the girl in the band) or the Americanized melodic rock “You are Me” (one of my favorites).
“One Shot Deal” blends classic hard rock with melodic hard in equal parts, and Pushking Community feels comfortable playing both sub-genres, and playing ’em greatly.
The band sounds as a classic rock should, with a modern (really good) production and a vibrant output.
