Yeah, the 30th Anniversary reissue of ‘1987’, WHITESNAKE‘s hit album already arrived, but as you may know, we are revisiting the band’s ’80s albums and here’s the glossy “Slip Of The Tongue“.
However, this time, instead the SHM-CD, we choose the “20th Anniversary Remastered Edition“, not only features some must have bonus tracks, but also because it’s a strange release.

When this “Slip Of The Tongue” was re-released back in 2009 as a “20th Anniversary Edition”, there was a track missing. Track 14 (Judgement Day – Live In The Shadow Of The Blues) was missing from the CD, although listed on the back cover and the booklet.
At the time EMI were asking people to send their faulty copies back to them and they would send back a corrected pressing… but that never happened.

Now there’s few copies remaining at retail stores of this “Slip Of The Tongue [20th Anniversary Remastered Edition]” – fetching high prices as is becoming out of print – and all are the initial faulty disc… so I guess the proper edition including Track 14 never was manufactured.

But that’s not the only odd thing about this “Slip Of The Tongue [20th Anniversary Remastered Edition]”. The mastering is different than the original 1989 release.
This re-release is definitely slower, I mean, the playback speed is slower.

The original CD is 46.37 and this 2009 version minus the bonus tracks is 47.00. Also, any Slip Of The Tongue tracks that have since featured on Whitesnake compilations albums play at the same speed as the old, original CD version of Slip Of The Tongue (faster).
This 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition is the first time these tracks have been presented in this way. Nothing relevant, but different.
As example, the intro to “Cheap An’ Nasty” is part of the album where you hear a difference the most.

Anyway, the sound quality is very good, and you not only get some kind of a ‘collectors piece’ here, but also the great bonus tracks ‘Sweet Lady Luck (Single B-side)’, ‘Now You’re Gone (US Single Remix)’, ‘Fool For Your Loving (Vai Voltage Mix)’ and a couple of hot live songs recorded at Donington Festival 1990.
