PLASTIC TEARS – Angels With Attitude (2018)

HERE

Finnish rockers PLASTIC TEARS have become a cult band over the years since formed in 1992, possibly the worst time to start a glam melodic hard rock band. But the group has soldiered on through splits, personnel changes, and bad record company deals for better than 25 years. Their first album, Stranded in Rock ‘n’ Roll arrived in 2000, but the second, Nine Lives Never Dies would not drop until 2009.
Now another nine years has passed, so it’s time for a new LP, titled “Angels With Attitude” through German City Of Lights Records.

Plastic Tears knows the substance and style of their chosen genre, and delivers the goods in eleven solid and entertaining songs. The fundamentals are self-evident in their song arrangements: twin guitar harmony, clean lead vocals and harmonious vocal layers, steady beat and essential groove from a tight rhythm section and, of course, short but hot guitar solos.
The influences are shown (Alice cooper, Hanoi Rocks, Bai Bang, Dogs D’Amour) but the guys add their own spin.

What can I say? Every song is great, not a dull moment here, just 3-minute songs of pure rock n’ roll. The album just flows smoothly, and each song has its own catchy factor.

Fast rockers come with ‘Blue Angel’, ‘Headless Army’, the bass driven ‘Iris Kick’, ‘Dark Passenger’, and the fun ‘Miss Stumbling Legs’. ‘Secret Society’ turns more upon a moderate pace and groove with a twisting guitar line that turns to a solo about midpoint.
‘Rhythm Rider’ turns more upon catchy riffs, but also a big drum beat, verses with swagger, and a catchy chorus.
Listed as bonus track (I don’t know why) ‘Universal Kid’ is another swift rocker with a slight breakdown after the midpoint, featuring vocals over drums, before kicking into a killer solo.

At this point in Rock history, there’s a ‘sound from Finland’ already established; you know, Hanoi Rocks started all, and Plastic Tears takes part of it.
“Angels With Attitude” indeed rocks with attitude, melody and catchy rhythms, with a very clean production / mix.
If you’ve never had the chance to check out Plastic Tears in the last 20 years, then this is a perfect place to start.
