And here’s the last of the requested best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, with the Japanese Limited Edition mini-LP replica, numbered, remastered release of the hit-maker “Get A Grip”, pressed on high quality SHM-CD.
Everybody loves a comeback, and Aerosmith not only managed to survive the ’70s but hit their commercial peak with their 11th studio album, “Get A Grip”, released 20 years into their career and amid the grunge-dominated landscape of 90s rock.

With its sneering cover of pierced cow udders designed by genius Hugh Syme, “Get A Grip” was an injection of old-school arena rock excess that took over radio and MTV for most of 1993 and beyond.
Previous album Pump was a major success, but the band and the label took the time (3 years) to make it even bigger, huge: produced by talented Bruce Fairbairn, “Get A Grip” is one of the ‘biggest sounding’ albums in American music history.
Here, Aerosmith really “jumped the shark”, going through the hard rock scene to world-wide recognition.

As on Permanent Vacation and Pump, this album featured numerous song collaborators from outside the band including AOR / Melodic Rock luminaries such as Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, Mark Hudson, Richie Supa, Taylor Rhodes, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw.
“Get A Grip” featured guests including Eagles’ Don Henley who sang backup on “Amazing”, Lenny Kravitz who offered backup vocals and collaboration to “Line Up”, and the great John Webster providing keyboards, among others.

Besides the well known mega hits “Amazing”, “Crazy”, “Crying” or the excellent “Living On The Edge”, the album packs great such as the never-recorded-Damn-Yankees “Shut Up and Dance” (written by Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw), the bouncy “Eat the Rich”, the groovy title track “Get a Grip”, or the bluesy “Fever”, while I really like the soul-fun of “Line Up” along with its bluesy slide guitar and a slight horn section.

“Can’t Stop Messing” is another favorite of mine, another Blades / Shaw co-write, a track originally not included into the US release of the album.
Among the ‘big hits’, you can’t deny the quality of “Amazing”, an excellent piano ballad with great chord structure and perfectly arranged instrumentation.

AEROSMITH - Get A Grip [Japan Limited Edition SHM-CD mini-LP remastered] back

You already should have a copy at home of Aerosmith’s “Get A Grip”, if not, what are you waiting for?
This album didn’t needed a refreshed sonic treatment, but this remastered Japanese edition on SHM-CD sounds huge, believe me. For the car or the iPod, it rocks.
